AFRICAN CULTURE FUND PARTNERS WITH ASIIBII ON A SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCACY SPOKENWORD POETRY ALBUM PROJECT

Today, I am delighted to introduce the spoken word poetry album project, “We are all Poets (WaaP)”.

I had in November 2022 been among the African Culture Fund Performing Arts funding call #11 shortlisted candidates, having applied for a creativity grant under the ‘assistance to distribution’ category.

It was exciting to have been selected among the 20 artists/art organizations from a pool of about 1800 applicants that year. That had showed me that my proposed project was considered to be timely and imperative. It had also expressed the commitment of the African Culture Fund in supporting and empowering grassroot/Indigenous artists.

‘We are all Poets’ is a social justice advocacy spoken-word poetry album that seeks to empower the general public, especially girls and women to assume responsibility and cause large scale system changes in their homes and communities.

The project pieces cut across several topics such as feminism, politics, etc. The impact of this album would translate into a safer environment for girls and women to thrive, and to know that they can become more than they could ever imagine.

African Culture Fund is the major sponsor of this project, and they will be collaborating with Punchline Poetry Society; where I am being managed as an indie-artist, and Sibiscus Publishing where I am a creative writer.

Thank you.

Signed

Asiibii
