Melicy Mandala is a graduate of bachelor’s degree in renewable energy and technologies. Melicy is the founder of Wala women’s social enterprise, which empowers women in renewable energy and agriculture.

Through Wala, Melicy has managed to train 2000 women in briquette making, biogas production, molding of efficient cooking stoves, agroforestry, vetiver plantation, oil production using castor seeds and irrigation farming using solar water pumps here in Malawi.

Wala also does climate change awareness in primary schools to empower children on climate mitigations and adaptations. Wala has managed to plant 2000 trees in primary schools and communities to increase carbon sequestration.

Through Wala women’s social enterprise, she has managed to do menstruation awareness campaigns in primary schools and provide sanitary pads to girls, as some girls drop out of school when they start menstruating because they cannot manage their periods without proper sanitation and care.

Melicy is also a country director of EcoClimate Vision Malawi, which increase awareness and dissemination of climate change information on a global scale with focus on the Global South.
