A REVIEW OF Soul, Folk & Chill 3
A REVIEW OF Soul, Folk & Chill 3
The creative and entertainment industry in Jos, Nigeria is progressively gaining visibility through the dedication and consistency of several individuals, organizations, and groups. One of such groups that has invested continually in this growth is the #SoulFolknChill geng.
6th November, 2022 will remain a memorable experience for all in attendance at #SoulFolknChill3 as the trio once again treated their audience to several thrilling performances.
The event which was hosted by Dorcas Kaze began as promised by 3:30pm; it was a wonder as the popular cliché of “African time” could not find expression at this event.
The event started out with a brief welcome by the anchor who ushered participants into a meet-and-greet amongst themselves.
To herald the performances of the trio was a stirring poem presentation by Asiibii. The first to perform from the trio was Doug Kazé who beautifully sang ‘Eyo’, ‘Laitu’, and ‘City of Dreams’ ft Agbutun.
Agbutun was next to excitingly sing ‘Incase you need me’, ‘Song of Love’, and ‘City Light’. To close the first session of performances was Eric Limani, who affectionately sang ‘Fortune’, ‘Angel amongst Men’ ft EDGE Golbador, and ‘Kilmanjaro’ ft Fortune Dyve & @Agbutun.
From the look on the faces of participants, and the side talks going on after the first session; one could deduce that they were getting value for the time and resources they had parted with to be at this event. It was all smiles on their faces, and posts on social media about how the event was the “BOMB” (not literally though)!
Asiibii was yet back for another glowing poetry rendition to set the pace for the next session of performances. This time, Agbutun went first; singing ‘Song of Unity’ ft Fortune, ‘Mad Dog’ and ‘at Peace (Loving Father)’. Eric was next with ‘Pieces’, ‘Unnoticed’, and ‘Traveller’. To close the session was Doug Kazé, who sang ‘Ayisa’, ‘Harmattan Night’ and ‘Lingering’ ft Dorcas Kaze.
At this point, the audience was sure fed with the best kind of conscious AfroFolk and Soul Music. There was no doubt as to the fact that they were also chilling whilst at this.
To encapsulate all that was done; the trio was interviewed by participants with questions about their lives, music, and other passions.
Though this event seemed perfect, there were some downsides to it. Firstly, there was a bit of a challenge with the sound during the first musical performance.
Secondly, because it was a live recording and a specific level of quiet needed be achieved at intervals; the door leading into the studio where the event was carried out needed to be closed periodically. However, there was a loose coordination as to the specific timing for people to be allowed into the studio. The door was not properly managed by whom it was assigned to.
Thirdly, though the aeration within the studio was excellent; the studio was not large enough to allow for a subtle exit of participants when they needed to.
To close the event, the trio sang to their audience; a ‘thank you’ song, and thereafter was a vote of thanks to all who made the event a success.
Some participants had evaluated the complimenting strengths of the trio and had attributed it thus; Doug Kaze’s songs were intellectually engaging, Agbutun’s were entertaining, and Eric’s were passionate. Consequently, most participants had agreed with this description and expressed further that the aforementioned virtues made them the perfect trio worth listening to.
#SoulFolknChill3 came to an end with several group and individual photo shots, and greater expectations by participants of subsequent events from the #SoulFolknChill geng.
