Abasi-lfreke Ede Edet
Abasi-lfreke Ede Edet is an educator, mentor, and social impact leader passionate about literacy and community development. She holds a degree in Biology Education and is a Teach for Nigeria Fellow in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria, where she works with primary school learners in underserved communities to address educational inequity. As the co-founder of the LiteraLeap Initiative, she is committed to helping children, especially girls, develop reading, writing, and speaking skills.

The LiteraLeap Initiative is a grassroots literacy project based in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria. It focuses on improving English literacy through interactive literacy clubs, phonics-based instruction, and teacher training. The initiative has impacted over 50 learners (mostly girls), in Community Primary School, Alagbe, boosting their confidence and academic success. Beyond literacy, Abasi-lfreke is addressing educational and infrastructural challenges. Through the Literaleap Initiative, she mentored two young girls to compete in a literacy competition, where they secured third place.

Seeing the high rate of school dropouts among girls in Ilara and Alagbe communities, she partnered with Apex Trail Fellows Connect to organize career sensitization sessions for over 300 students across three(3) schools in the two communities, exposing them to successful role models. Recognizing the lack of electricity as a barrier to learning, she secured solar systems from BluettiAfrica for 50 girls and female teachers in Imeko-Afon LGA, Ogun State, Nigeria enabling them to read and study at night.

Beyond working with students, Abasi-lfreke collaborates with teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to advocate for educational equity. She envisions a future where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality learning resources and opportunities to succeed.
